Head & Neck Cancer

Capital Otolaryngology

Conveniently located in Austin and Lakeway, Texas, Capital Otolaryngology provides surgical management of a wide array of cancers involving the head, face, neck, and upper respiratory and digestive tracts.

Common cancers of the head and neck include:

Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is an ever-increasing problem as our ozone layer has been depleted. Capital Otolaryngology specializes in the removal and cosmetic reconstruction of multiple types of skin cancer, including squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma. Our physicians’ detailed knowledge of the complex facial anatomy, along with their extensive cosmetic experience, helps us achieve optimal results.

Cancers of the Mouth, Voice Box, and Esophagus

Any individual can develop cancers of these structures, but they are especially common in people who smoke. Our physicians can perform early diagnosis and staging in our Austin and Lakeway offices with fiber optic exams and in-office CT scanning. We work closely with your medical oncologist and your radiation therapist to provide comprehensive team management.

Thyroid Cancer

With decades of thyroid and parathyroid surgical management, the specialists at Capital Otolaryngology have developed minimally invasive techniques that can be performed as outpatient surgery in most cases.

Our techniques leave minimal scarring and allow for rapid recovery. Our extensive experience reduces the risks commonly associated with thyroid cancer surgery. Capital Otolaryngology will work closely with your endocrinologist and primary physician to provide comprehensive management.

Enlarged Lymph Nodes in the Neck

Patients may present with enlarged lymph nodes in their neck. This enlargement may be due to infection, but the possibility of lymph node cancer must be considered. Appropriate work-up and trials of antibiotics are necessary.

We also use our in-office CT scanner to thoroughly evaluate a neck mass. If the mass is suspicious for cancer, we can perform an in-office fine needle aspiration biopsy. The lymph node may need to be removed to be certain of the diagnosis and for the oncologist to ascertain the best treatment. Our expert physicians at Capital Otolaryngology can remove the lymph node as a well-tolerated outpatient procedure.
